3rd Year

On Thursday we’ll have a brief recap on what we’ve been doing so far in our Science lessons, and our teacher will be asking us lots of questions about the topics we’ve been looking at in class, so she recommends us reading and rereading our notes at home, or, at least, locating those pages in our notebooks on which we’ve been taking notes.

These are the topics we’ll be asked to talk about:

-          Living beings versus inanimate objects

-          Natural materials versus artificial materials

-          Vertebrates and invertebrates

-          Animal habitats

-          Animal diet

-          The physical environment (landscapes, landforms and water forms)

Dijous recapitularem el que hem estat fent fins ara a les sessions de “Science”, i la mestra ens farà moltes preguntes sobre els diversos temes que hem anat tractant , així que ens recomana llegir i rellegir els apunts a casa, o, com a mínim, localitzar les pàgines de la llibreta on hem fet les anotacions corresponents.

Aquests són els temes dels quals se’ns demanarà de parlar:

-          Éssers vius i éssers inerts

-          Materials naturals i materials artificials

-          Vertebrats i invertebrats

-          Hàbitats animals

-          Dietes dels animals

-          El medi físic (paisatges, formes de relleu i formes d’aigua)

Greetings to all!

After having practised reading it in class, your children have taken home their booklet “The Dentist”. It is time to show parents our progress by reading it at home, listening to the story on the CD and being aware of the way English is pronounced and written.

Falling teeth is a topic close to your child’s heart, so it is familiar enough to understand what is going on in the story and to discuss good habits, like brushing teeth and eating healthy. Try to introduce as much English as possible in your conversations.

Desprès d’haver practicat a classe, els vostres fills i filles han portat a casa el llibret “The Dentist”. Ara toca llegir-lo als pares perquè vegin com hem progressat, escoltar la història al CD i ser conscients de com es pronuncia i s’escriu l’anglès.

Les dents que cauen són un tema molt proper per al vostre fill o filla, de manera que és prou conegut com per entendre què passa a la història i per discutir sobre bons hàbits, com rentar-se les dents i menjar de forma saludable. Intenteu introduir el màxim d’anglès possible a les vostres converses.

Greetings to all!

After having practised reading it in class, your children have taken home their “Big Owl” booklet. It is time to show parents our progress by reading it at home, listening to the story on the CD and becoming aware of the way English is pronounced and written.

Then we can practise the Christmas carol. We have an adapted version of this traditional song in a handout that we have also taken home. Here’s a link to the tune:

Desprès d’haver practicat a classe, els vostres fills i filles han portat a casa el llibret “Big Owl”. Ara toca llegir-lo als pares perquè vegin com hem progressat, escoltar la història al CD i fer-nos conscients de com es pronuncia i s’escriu l’anglès.

Next Monday, November 21st (4th A), or Tuesday, November 22nd (4th B), we’ll take our second exam.

What to study for the test

-          The parts of the body (well written!)

-          Different types of movement (e.g. swinging, straightening, lowering, lifting…)

-          The comparatives “taller than” & “shorter than” (e.g. “Lucy is taller than Bill”, “Bob is shorter than Ann”)

-          The personal pronouns “he” & “she” and the possessive adjectives “his” & “her” (e.g. “He is moving his right ankle”, “she is touching her head with her foot”)

-          How to turn an infinitive into a gerund (= an action, an –ing word): climb – climbing, write – writing, sit – sitting…

All the activities in Unit 2 on the Multi-ROM can help us study for the exam.

2nd Year

Hello!

This week 2nd year students are taking home some handouts that need to be finished.

As we have mentioned before, repetition is paramount in language acquisition, so while your children are writing or colouring in their work, we should help them become aware of the differences between languages, spelling, sounds, etc. See if they remember the stories, the songs, the vocabulary, the structures we use in class.

Aquesta setmana els estudiants de 2n s’emporten a casa algunes fitxes que cal acabar. Tal com hem mencionat anteriorment, la repetició és essencial en l’adquisició d’una llengua, de manera que mentre escriuen o pinten, hauríem d’ajudar els nois i noies a prendre consciència de les diferències entre llengües, l’ortografia, els sons, etc. Comproveu si recorden les històries, les cançons, el vocabulari i les estructures que fem servir a la classe.

4th Year

Hello everybody!

Since over the last few weeks we’ve been looking at the human body and the different types of body movement, why don’t we measure our body?

We could complete a card like the one we have in the Project Booklet (page 11), but we should write the data on a piece of cardboard so that we could display the cards in class.

First of all, we’ll measure our arm from shoulder to elbow and from elbow to wrist; then, we’ll measure our hand from wrist to finger tips, our leg from hip to knee and from knee to ankle, and, finally, our foot from ankle to tips of the toes. We are anxious to know who’s got the longest arm, hand, leg and foot!

Com que durant les darreres setmanes hem estat treballant en el cos humà i els diferents tipus de moviment corporal, per què no mesurem el nostre cos?

Podríem completar una fitxa com la que tenim al Project Booklet (pàg. 11), però hauríem d’escriure la informació en cartolines per tal d’exposar-les a classe.

Primerament, mesurarem el nostre braç des de l’espatlla fins al colze i des del colze fins al canell; després, mesurarem el nostre braç des del canell fins a les puntes dels dits, la nostra cama des del maluc fins al genoll i des del genoll fins al turmell, i, finalment, el nostre peu des del turmell fins a les puntes dels dits. Estem ansiosos per saber qui té el braç, la mà, la cama i el peu més llargs!

Cicle Superior - 5th and 6th Years

Dear families,

November is here. So far we have completed Unit 0 and Unit 1 of our books and we have worked on Halloween. We are learning to use folders and we have taken a test on Unit 1. The results are very satisfactory.

After a month and a half of classes there are some issues we should be aware of:

1.       As Cicle Superior students we should become more and more independent in our learning experience. We should depend less on adults, we should work with more autonomy and less guidance. We are like birds learning to fly!

2.       One area we need to strengthen is “writing”. This is our weakest point, so we have come to some agreements on how our work is marked so that we can improve this skill. This is the most basic of our Basic Competences: Learning to learn. We have to take an active role in our learning process.

3.       We should speak English more, because we can. It is easier to resort to Catalan to speak to our teacher, but it is a lot more useful to speak English as often as possible. This is why we have made a list of useful sentences to use in class to which we will add more when we think of new things to say!

So, congratulations everybody and let’s keep improving our English!!

Benvolgudes famílies,

Ha arribat el novembre. Fins ara hem completat les unitats 0 i 1 dels llibres i hem treballat Halloween. Estem aprenent a fer servir els dossiers i hem fet l’examen de la unitat 1. Els resultats són molt satisfactoris.

Després d’un mes i mig de classes hi ha algunes qüestions que requereixen la nostra atenció:

1.       Com a estudiants de Cicle Superior hauríem de ser cada cop més independents en la nostra tasca d’aprenentatge. Hauríem de dependre menys dels adults i hauríem de treballar amb més autonomia i menys guiatge. Som com ocells que aprenen a volar!

2.       Una àrea que cal reforçar és l’escriptura. Aquest és el nostre punt dèbil, de manera que hem arribat a uns acords sobre com es corregirà la nostra feina per poder millorar aquesta habilitat. Aquesta és la més bàsica de les nostres Competències Bàsiques: aprendre a aprendre. Hem d’adoptar un paper actiu en el nostre procés d’aprenentatge.

3.       Hauríem de parlar més en anglès, perquè en som capaços. És més fàcil recórrer al català per parlar amb la mestra, però és molt més útil parlar anglès amb la màxima freqüència possible. Per això hem fet una llista de frases útils per utilitzar a la classe, i l’anirem ampliant a mesura que pensem en frases noves.

Així doncs, l’enhorabona a tothom i continuem millorant el nostre anglès!!
